On March 6, 2025, the AiroTEC Operations Center and the International Relations Office of Chiang Mai Rajabhat University (CMRU) welcomed Mr. James Shea, First Secretary, Economic Section, U.S. Embassy Bangkok; Ms. Vararat Khemangkorn, Economic Specialist, Economic Section, U.S. Embassy Bangkok; Ms. Traci Picciano, Political Economic Assistant, U.S. Consulate General Chiang Mai; and Ms. Varunee Torsricharoen, Economic and Commercial Specialist, U.S. Consulate General Chiang Mai. The meeting focused on advancing Air Quality and Climate Change initiatives in Chiang Mai and across Thailand. The discussion took place at Euang Sai Song Saeng Room, Digital Education Office, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, Mueang Chiang Mai District.
The meeting was attended by CMRU executives, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Dusadee Rangsichatchawan, Assistant to the President; Dr. Worasuda Wattanwong, Director of the International Relations Office. During the meeting Dr. Ratchaphon Samphutthanont, Director of AiroTEC, presented key U.S.-Thailand collaboration projects, including: The installation of the Pandora Spectrometer for atmospheric composition measurement, The utilization of GEMS satellite data and other satellite resources, Participation in NASA’s DC-8 airborne atmospheric research, which enhances the understanding of horizontal and vertical air pollution movement in the Chiang Mai-Lamphun basin Additionally, AiroTEC introduced new tools and methods for: Burned area analysis, PM 2.5 air pollution monitoring and surveillance, Data interpretation and communication for public awareness. The presentation also highlighted the DIY positive air pressure room (Air Pressure Room) technology, designed to be affordable, accessible, and highly effective in improving indoor air quality. Asst. Prof. Dr. Phathranit Kitthitinan provided further details on the system’s components and implementation. Representatives from the U.S. Embassy Bangkok and the U.S. Consulate General Chiang Mai expressed their commitment to supporting collaboration with AiroTEC and CMRU in projects that will enhance academic research and provide societal benefits.
